house of night culture.

annual renown event “kulturnatten” took place last night in copenhagen, gathering more than 100,000 habitués and first timers alike. cph’s cultural establishments and many outlying boroughs provided a great opportunity for locals and visitors to see a new face of the city. a mere 75 kroner toll-badge opened new horizons in terms of dance, theatre, music, art, city walks exhibitions, churches, and a great number of venues which are normally not open to the public. my personal picks carried a musical affinity, and included the aavaat greenlandic choir (a combination of inuit aesthetic singing, breathing soundscapes, plus instruments made entirely out of ice), one night/one flashlight at rosenborg castle (props for opening an entire castle to the general audience), fire sculptures at island brygge, night symphony inside the citadel church (repertoire consisted of olivier messiaen & arvo pärt). the church saga continued later on, this time at bronsons kirke (halidom for renegade rappers? ostentatious hippies’ citadel? another unitarian church on the block? probably the prevalent definition would be ‘a sassy place somewhere east copenhagen, known as the locus to catch “dat aids”, or take that last great ride before dying in a pool of your own h-laced fluids’). all things considered, bronsons was home for the churchill event, which figured artists such as local cph electronica harmonist nabo, rune grammofon roster skyphone, and last but not least *drumroll* oliver doerell, commonly known as dictaphone, and one of the duo behind swod. it should also be noted the ramming atempt to see trentemøller at the danish design center, a dull bid unworthy of trekking a 30min maniac drive throught københavn’s midnight traffic jam (!), only to be followed by what seemed to be a 2hr waiting line to get in. night’s brevity came to an end, with its curfew leaving an obdurate desire adventing for next year’s event. they say absence makes the heart grow fonder right?…or was it fungus?
